SETH
MICHAEL MAY and BRYAN
RADTKE met in the Fall of 1998 as actors in Master Class in New
York City. In this class they collaborated on many projects, both acting
together and directing each other's work. They realized that although they had different acting experiences and backgrounds, they shared a common appreciation for the actor's creative journey. Acting on Impulse Coaching Services began in 2004.
The work was largely based off of a seven week rehearsal process for the Improvisational Film, "The Party Project," as well as an Ongoing Wednesday Improvisational Lab for professional actors that they created. As private coaches and together in workshops and classes, Seth Michael and Bryan have helped many actors reach their goals.
Their goal is to help the actor overcome creative blocks in his/her work.
First, understanding that every actor is an individual means that they do not expect that every technique, exercise,
method or artistic philosophy is going to work for everyone. Seth Michael and Bryan work specifically with each actor.
Many times you've observed actors "white knuckle" the
technique, rule, law or method they have been taught. Working this
way, the actor often loses a sense of individual expression. Often,
actors tell themselves that they know this, but have no idea what else
to do. Faith or Trust in one's creative impulses is the most important
thing. By trying and doing new things one can often have bigger breakthroughs
than staying on a hard and fast course.
Seth Michael and Bryan give each actor options. They help to guide
actors to fully explore their impulses in a safe environment. They
believe that each actor will acquire a fuller appreciation of creative
impulses and a greater freedom to make bolder choices in their work.

"What we
usually call [developing one's talent] is often nothing more than
freeing it from the
influences that hamper, occlude and
frequently destroy it entirely." --Michael Chekhov (To the Actor)
Acting on Impulse Coaching Services
provides:
Ongoing classes in
Improvisational Scene Study. This class is for actors who
wish to approach work from a more improvisational basis and
improvisers who wish to go deeper into their work and their
acting. We feel if you want to be a better improviser you should
study acting. If you want to be a better actor, you should study
improvisation.
Workshops for the
actor and the non actor. These workshops are designed to take
the participant on a journey. Many artists and non artists alike often complain of feeling shut down, and are not able to
open up and simply be. Our workshops are focused in a way so
that you can find the courage to do that. People often report
that they feel more alive, spontaneous and creative after
taking these workshops.
Individual coaching
for the actor. We coach both professionals and professionally
minded actors still looking to make a mark for themselves in the
business. Actors can choose to come regularly for work on
monologues, cold read technique or to overcome individual
"sticking points." Others may need to get ready for a
specific audition or to be coached on a Film/TV/Theatre project
that they are already involved in.
We are available to come to
your company, your theatre group or organization to provide
workshops and classes. These can be designed to suit your
specific needs or we can use our own curriculum. We have
provided these workshops for other Acting Teachers,
Psychotherapists, Teachers and Sales Reps, as well as other
professionals. People have commented that these workshops have
made them more confident communicators who feel happier in
their line of work.
