Improvisation Challenge: From Improv to Text
August 17th 5 - 9
This workshop was created for actors wishing to work in film and television. In these mediums, quick processes, limited rehearsal
time and other demands require a balance between improvisational technique and script analysis.
We will lead the group through sensory and improvisation exercises in the first half of the workshop; then, with your impulses alive and ready, we will guide you so you can apply these instincts to text. This has also proved beneficial to directors and writers who are looking for a common language between themselves and actors.

"Although human
beings are incapable of talking about themselves with total honesty,
it is much harder to avoid the truth while pretending to be other people.
They often reveal much more about themselves in a very straightforward
way."

FIVE SENSES WORKOUT
SENSORY WORK FOR THE CREATIVE ACTOR
JUNE 1st 3 - 9
In this workshop we will guide you through exercises to open up the 5 senses. The 5 senses are a powerful vehicle for the actor to access imagination, memory and impulses. In childhood we had deeper levels of touch, taste, smell, sight and sound. They can be yours again.
This workshop allows the actor to hone a more receptive instrument to create characters that continue to evolve and surprise.
Combining aspects of Stanislavski, Strasberg, Neuro Linguistic studies, Dianne Ackerman's History of the 5 senses along with "Awareness through Movement" Work, and Intense Feeling Therapy work, this workshop takes you through each sense and what it can bring out depending on how it's stimulated. 45 minutes are spent on each sense along with additional time for journaling. One can only leave a more powerful artist.
It's not about creating an "imaginary coffee cup" it's about opening up to a bigger and bolder, more creative you. If you've ever felt that you are holding yourself back creatively this is the one for you. This workshop is open to anyone, actors and non-actors alike.

"I wouldn't use
the word 'Improvisation'. I'd use another term.
I'd say what matters is being available,
making oneself available, to
the thing that is being born and that is still shapeless,
like molten rock, undefined."

"Memory is a mysterious
element, almost indefinable, that links us to things we don't even
remember having lived. But it constantly incites us to stay in contact
with dimensions, with events, sensations,
we can't define, but that we
know actually happened."

IMPROV MANIA III,
ADVANCED IMPROVISATION
NEW DATES FORTHCOMING:
(This Workshop is only open to those who have completed improvmania 1 or 2, members of the ongoing class, or private clients of Bryan and Seth Michael)
Listening, commitment to your point of view, and use of the information given in the scenes are all major tools to be explored. Without them, scenes often fall apart.
This workshop will look at these tools while encouraging you to explore bold spontaneous choices, to push through what you see as your current limitations, and to ground your performances in a strong point of view. Our goal will be to help you live more dangerously in your improvisation so you can be more comfortable dealing with your individual sticking points which may come up in your work as an actor.
Exercises will be tailored to helping each individual break through blocks and get over creative hurdles in their work.
Also included will be advanced improv tools such as the 3/3/3, The active and passive listener, and the progressive animal behavior exercise.
